New Zealand Golf chairman re-elected

Waikato administrator Philip Hassall has been re-elected as Chairman of the Board of Directors for New Zealand Golf.

Mr Hassall was first elected chairman in 2006 after amalgamation and was first elected to the board of NZG in 2002. He is a former Chairman of Lochiel Golf Club in Hamilton and Waikato Golf and played a key role in the amalgamation of the Men's and Women's golf organisations.

Wellington's Paul Fyfe, retired managing director of ING in New Zealand, has been elected as the new deputy chairman.

The new Board of Directors is now in place for 2010 after the first-ever postal election and appointments process.

The new elected director is Christchurch-based Ken Fergus, a former senior partner of Ernst & Young Chartered Accountants, who was an Otago representative and currently Chairman of the Board at Christchurch Golf Club.

Mr Fergus has been joined by two new appointed directors in Murray Ward (North Shore) and Michael Smith (Tauranga).

Mr Ward, with a successful business background in the IT sector, is currently an independent director on the boards of three New Zealand based companies, and is president of Omaha Beach Golf Club and also a member at North Shore Golf Club.

Mr Smith is a Tauranga based lawyer who is currently a director of the Port of Tauranga Ltd and Chairman of Quayside Holdings Ltd, while is currently on the Board of Management at Tauranga Golf Club.

The Board of Directors for New Zealand Golf for 2010 is:
Philip Hassall (Waikato, Chairman), Paul Fyfe (Wellington, Deputy Chairman), Richard Taylor (Auckland), Jeanette Futter (Wellington), Liz Douglas (Canterbury), Murray Ward (North Harbour), Michael Smith (Bay of Plenty), Ken Fergus (Canterbury).
